Well, yes and no, let me elaborate; you may notice that areas cleaned by a home cleaner get dirty faster. This is due to wicking and soapy residue that is left behind that is attracting dirt. These cleaning machines have trouble penetrating deep stains and they have trouble removing all the water and all the “cleaning product” mixed in the water. So, the stain may be gone immediately but as the carpet dries it can wick back up to the surface. The residues left by these chemicals remaining in the carpet can deteriorate your carpets even faster and it can wreak havoc on a professional cleaner getting the job done properly.
Please let us know if you have these machines, or if you are using any spot treating chemicals that we have not provided. Do not be bashful! We love when our customers want to take care of their carpets and we truly enjoy teaching our customers how to properly use these machines and how to clean spots using chemicals to get the best results – we will leave behind a free bottle of Spotter that is safe for the whole family.
This is a loaded question full of land mines, but I will try to answer it as simply as possible.
- Low cost/competition - This industry has very little government regulation, so just about anyone with a spray bottle and a brush can start a carpet cleaning business. This means there is a lot of price competition out there.
- Low cost/Poor planning - Many businesses do not plan, these businesses run for about 5-10 years before fizzling out due to an injury or because they are just unable to upkeep the equipment properly.
- Higher cost /Supply and demand -- if you offer a great service, desired by many, the cost of the service will most likely need to be higher to maintain it and grow it.
- Lower cost / Bait and switch; just because you saw an ad for a carpet cleaner who says they will clean your whole house for $99, does not mean you will pay that price. There is usually a caveat that is not explained clearly to you prior to booking the appointment. They are weaseling their way into your home because they know that once they are there, they can upcharge you through the roof anyway. At the end of the service, you will pay much more than expected. We call this the “bait and switch” sales tactic and it is used tremendously in this industry.
